A few thoughts about upgrading your TriCaster to the Advanced Edition 3 software

Upgrading your NewTek TriCaster to the Advanced Edition 3 software can add a wealth of new features and capabilties to your system. If you are still using the older Standard Edition software, the most notable new capability with be adding NDI and all of its benefits including additional inputs. If you are upgrading from AE1 or AE2, you will add touchscreen support, PTZ control panels and high-bitrate MP4 recording and much more. AE3 can be added to the TriCaster 8000, 860, 855, 460, 455, 410, and Mini.

Adding AE1 or AE2 was straightforward to those TriCasters running the Pro Series software (410, 460, 860, 8000, etc) or later machines like the Mini. The TriCaster 455 and 855 could also be upgraded to AE1 or AE2 by first going to the 60 series software and then adding the Advanced Edition 1 or 2 software.

Adding AE3 can be a bit trickier, especially if you have an older TriCaster like the 455 or 855. The underlying hardware may not meet the system requirements for running the AE3 software. You may need to upgrade your graphics (video) card or update its driver. Worse case, you may need to upgrade the CPU which requires a motherboard swap, etc. Adding AE1 or AE2 didn't present this challenge.

NewTek has provided a system checker to determine if your TriCaster hardware needs to be upgraded before adding the AE3 software upgrade at https://www.newtek.com/downloads/ next to the AE3 section. Once you’ve run the checker and determined if your TriCaster hardware needs to be upgraded, you can decide if you want to add the AE3 software upgrade or not.

Currently it costs $`1,995.00 to upgrade a TriCaster running the Standard Edition software to AE3. It costs $995.00 if you already have AE1 or AE2 installed on your TriCaster. As an authorized NewTek reseller, we can do a little better on the price when upgrading your system to AE3.

The following important message is from NewTek: “If you are upgrading a unit from Standard Edition to Advanced Edition 3, be aware that your previous Standard Edition sessions will not be compatible with Advanced Edition 3. You will need to rebuild the session. All of your media will need to be re-imported to the session using the Import function of the TriCaster located under File in the top left corner of a session. LiveText projects can be copied over from D:\LiveText Projects\SessionName into the new session's folder. All settings will be lost. Additionally, Gain audio settings will be turned on and may need to be turned off.”
